Brief History
Centre of Excellence in oil Gas and Energy (CoE-OGE) at IIT Bombay was established in 2019 to provide a competitive advantage to India’s oil and gas companies. CoE-OGE is funded by IOCL, BPCL, HPCL, GAIL, ONGC, EIL and OIL, which are Indian public sector companies engaged in upstream, midstream and downstream activities in Oil, Gas and Petrochemical Sector. The MoU to set up this CoE was signed on January 2, 2019 between Chairman/CMDs of the oil PSUs and Director of IIT Bombay in the presence of Hon’ble Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Shri. Dharmendra Pradhan.
Objective of the Centre:
- Lead the oil and gas PSUs towards an integrated vision for the oil and gas sector that includes utilization of unconventional feedstocks as well as using crude oil derivatives or natural gas as a feed for petrochemicals
- Develop sustainable solutions to the complex energy and environmental issues faced by the Oil and Natural Gas PSUs through continuous and collaborative R&D efforts in technology and policy research
- Create new manpower and upgrade the knowledge of existing industry professionals
- Explore new frontiers in technology for tapping unconventional reserves of Oil and Natural Gas
