Seminar Hall, Ground Floor, Vanvihar Guest house, IIT Bombay.

Introduction to the course:

The industry sector accounts for a significant share of India’s carbon dioxide emissions. Decarbonisation of industry is a challenge and an opportunity for engineers and managers. The CoE-OGE has developed a three-day training module to provide oil and gas sector professionals with the tools and techniques needed for addressing this challenge.

Broad Objectives:

Decarbonisation of any process can be achieved by improving the energy efficiency, changing the fuel mix (moving to renewables or nuclear), carbon capture and storage, or modifying the process. This course will provide the basics of energy auditing, benchmarking, pinch and process integration, cogeneration, as well as the state of the art of carbon capture, utilisation and storage. The course will cover methods for carbon footprinting and economic calculations to estimate the marginal cost of saved carbon. A few case studies of efficiency and CCUS in the oil and gas sector will illustrate actual experiences. Course participants will be encouraged to share their ideas and develop practical suggestions for decarbonisation within their industry context (since COE-OGE has already done several courses on renewables, details of renewables are not covered in this course).

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

Appreciate and apply carbon footprint and energy audit calculations as relevant, calculate the economic costs of saved carbon and its importance, and identify opportunities for decarbonization in their own unit or plant.

Targeted Audience/ Pre-requisite:

This program is designed for beginners or entry-level employees only.
