Introduction to the course:
This course on crude oil electro-desalting aims at desalter operators, managers, designers, and R and D personnel in oil refineries and design (fabrication) companies to understand the underlying principles of electro-desalting and the various operational aspects as well as design principles of an electro-desalter to enable better operation, troubleshoot and even design the electro-desalters scientifically.
BROAD OBJECTIVES:
The objective of the course is to introduce the participant to the basics of the principles of electro-desalting, the microscopic processes in an electro-desalter, and the design of the electro-desalter so that one can either operate and troubleshoot the operations of an electro-desalter or innovate newer designs of electro-desalters.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
(a) Understanding the basics of the electro-desalting process
(b) understanding of the internals and different designs of electro-desalters
(c) ability to address operational issues in an electro-desalter
(d) formation and identification of rag layer
(e) doing salt balances on an electro-desalter
